Eacham Memorial Gates
Eacham Memorial Gates
Photographs supplied by Diane Watson

Eacham Memorial Gates contain honour rolls of those from the Shire who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two. The names of those who died in service or were killed in action in other conflicts have been placed on a separate plaque.

The original gates and arch have been enhanced by two memorial walls which flank the arch and display sillouetted images of Australian military characters. The original Honour Rolls are now protected behind perspex.

A committee of 10 of the public citizens of Malanda has been formed and its immediate object is to raise sufficient funds to erect memorial gates at the entrance to the childrens playground at Eacham Place. The approximate cost of the gates is £300 which is to be a memorial to the fallen in the 1914-18 and 1939-45 wars who previously lived in the shire of Eacham. Although the names of the fallen from Millaa Millaa and Yungaburra will appear on the plaques, the appeal for funds in primarily intended for the people of the Malanda section of the shire although all donations will be gladly received.
