Dunwich War MemorialPrint Page
The War Memorial was originally erected in memory of those from Stradbroke Island who have served in conflicts in which Australia has been involved and is in memory of fallen comrades. Additional plaques have been added to the memorial to commemorate all Australians who have served in conflicts.
The memorial is a white painted cairn set atop rocks from the original former RSL Kitchener memorial at Wynnum, which form the base. Unveiled by Hon G.F.R. Nicklin on the 11th March 1967, as a tribute to individuals of Stradbroke Island, including the many Indigenous locals who enlisted in all conflicts. The Aboriginal flag is flown alongside the Australian flag at remembrance services.
