The Memorial Hall was erected to commemorate those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.
Two hundred and fifty people from many parts of Southern Tasmania saw the Minister for Lands and Works (Mr. Reece) open Osterley's new War Memorial Hall. Mr. Reece said that a community's greatest efforts were to be found in small country centres, where the people were more self reliant. Of the total cost of £2,000 for the memorial hall, £540 was a grant from war memorial funds, and £300 a donation by Mr. H. E. Brock. The land was a gift from the Warden of Hamilton (Mr. R. K. Madden).
