The tree commemorates those from the district who died in service or were killed in action in World War One and World War Two.

The Moreton Bay Fig tree was originally planted in front of the Stansbury (Dalrymple) Institute in 1910 and moved to the foreshore in 1922 where a plaque commemorating the fallen of both world wars was erected in front of the tree at a later date.

The Memorial Tree

A Moreton Bay Fig was planted outside the Institute in 1910. When the addition of the Soldiers Memorial Rooms were added in 1922 the fig tree was moved to the foreshore. here it exists in all its splendour, still known as the Memorial Tree.

The view of the Memorial Tree shows the old Foreshore Jetty still in the background.
