Magill Soldier`s MemorialPrint Page
The Soldier`s Memorial was originally erected to commemorate those from the District who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.
A plaque was added at a later date to commemorate those from the District who died in service or were killed in action in World War Two.
In 2020/21 fundig was received through the Saluting Their Service to relocate the memorial from its location at Magill and Penfold Roads to the Gums Reserve, Tranmere.
An impressive ceremony marked the unveiling on Sunday by Brigadier-General Leane of a fallen soldiers memorial at Magill. Thirty three men who had enlisted from the district made the supreme sacrifice. The monument stands in a portion of the Magill school grounds. It is an artistically designed marble stone and bears the names of the dead. The money for the work was raised by public subscription at the suggestion of the Magill Progress Association the secretary of which (Mr. I. M. Simcock) did most of the organising work. A large crowd witnessed the service.
