The wall memorialises the contributions made by citizen soldiers of the Illawarra during both peace and wartime. It was dedicated in October 2000 by Edward Kenna, one of the three surviving Victoria Cross holders in Australia at the time, and came about through the efforts of The Association of Fourth Infantry Battalions Illawarra sub-branch.
