The memorial gates commemorate those from the district who served in World Wars One and Two.

The President of the Cessnock Sub-Branch of the Returned Services League (Mr. P. Farnham) officially opened the memorial gates at Ellalong on Saturday afternoon. The gates which are erected at Ellalong Public School commemorate those from Ellalong who served in both wars. Reverend Buris performed the dedication ceremony. The gates are situated at Ellalong Public School and 51 names of ex-servicemen are engraved on the pillars supporting them.
