The reredos was erected as a war memorial in memory of those who gave their lives in World War One and World War Two.
The Venerable Archdeacon Hohenhouse, O.B.E., former rector of Cairns and war chaplain, this morning dedicated a war memorial in St. John's Church of England at a special service attended by a large number of friends and relatives of those who gave their lives in the two world wars. The memorial consisted of a reredos with canopy and panelling at both sides.
