St Leonards Memorial HallPrint Page Print this page

The Memorial Hall was erected in memory of those who died in service or were killed in action during World War One and World War Two.

The hall, which is located at the recreation grounds, is leased by the Tamar Bridge Club.

Foundations of the proposed £5000 St. Leonards War Memorial Hall are almost complete. The secretary of the St Leonards War Memorial committee (Mr, Eric Morrison) said yesterday that the hall would be well on the way to completion by the end of the year. Part of the work of construction is being done by volunteers. and working bees are drawn from all walks of life. The hall will have a brick front and the remaining walls will be in weatherboard. lt will contain a 72 by 36 ft. dance hall, cloak rooms, supper room and kitchen, store and usual conveniences. There will also be a stage. The hall, which will replace an old and out-of-date one, will stand on St. Leonards sports ground. As a memorial to the dead of two world wars it will provide an essential service to the community. So far £1500 has been raised by voluntary effort and the Government has matched that amount pound for pound. The hall will be controlled by the War Memorial Hall committee.
