The War Memorial Centre commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. The centre was originally erected in memory of the fallen of both World Wars.

Plaques have been placed on the pillars of the entrance gate and arch at the side of the centre and commemorate those who served in World War Two and later conflicts. Two ANZAC Centenary plaques have also been placed at the gateway.

Funding was received in 2018 for the refurbishment of the Centre including the War Memorial Centre Gateway.

Memorial Centre At East Maitland
Opening new club rooms and tennis courts of the East Maitland sub-branch of the Returned Servicemen's League on Saturday, Mr. W. A. Howarth, M.L.A., congratulated the sub-branch "for having provided a centre that would be a living and useful memorial to those who had fallen." The President of East Maitland War Memorial Committee (Mr. F. W. Goodhugh) said the day completed five years'planning for a memorial worthy of the men who fought and died for them.
