The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.  The timber used in its construction are old jetty planks.

The person mainly responsible for creating the monument was Keith Airs, who served in the Vietnam War with the 8th Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment.  He was helped by the French Island Community Association.

Rose Scott had the honour of unveiling the ANZAC Memorial plaque.
