Tattersall`s Staff Honour RollPrint Page
The wooden honour roll commemorates the staff of Tattersall`s Lottery who served in World War One and World War Two.
Few Tasmanians realised the great sacrifice made by the men of their state in the first and second World Wars, the Premier (Mr. Cosgrove) said at Hobart yesterday, when unveiling an honour roll at Tattersall's Buildings of members of Tattersall's staff who served in this war. Mr. Cosgrove said there could not be too many public records of the valuable war service given by thi men of Tasmania, not only for their own country, but for the Empire.
Tasmania had only a very small community, but when it was realised that more than 12 per cent. of the state's population served in the recent war, the sacrifice of its people could be appreciated. The state president of the R.S.L, (Mr. J. T. Wertheimer), who unveiled a tablet presented by the R.S.L., said the war service consultations had benefited the League by about £131,000. The money would be used to help distressed ex-servicemen and their dependents.
