The plaque commemorates expeditioners of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (A.N.A.R.E.) who have died in the service of ANARE and their country. It lists the names of those who died and the station at which they were serving and their date of daeath.

The plaque was unveiled during the ANARE jubilee in 1997.
