Bulwer Island ObeliskPrint Page Print this page

Obelisk commemorates the discovery of oil in Queensland and the proposed pipeline from the Moonie oilfield.

The obelisk was unveiled by Queen Elizabeth in 1963 and for that occasion a pavilion was built around the obelisk and filled with mining displays. Koalas were bought in from Lone Pine Sanctuary. It is not sure who owns the memorial which is on State land and there have been suggestions it should be moved.
