Disputed Gold DiscoveriesPrint Page Print this page

William McLachlan is reputed to be in the first memorial to be discoverer of gold in the Stawell area. Some 94 years later, the daughter of Alexander Fraser claimed that her father had been the first discoverer.

The Goldfields Rewards Boards records reveal the Fraser`s argument was considered but rejected at the time. The dispute is carried on by present descendants of Fraser.
