Plaque erected in memory of Cecil Carey Downton who was accidentally killed in Wales in 1916.

Mr Carey Downton, of Eden on Monday morning last, received the sad news by cable of the death of his youngest son, Cecil, at Cardiff, Wales on March 21. Deceased, who was a member of the crew of the s.s. Brooklet, a supply ship to the British navy, was engaged in loading cargo when he received the injuries which caused his death. Two other brothers are with the Australian expeditionary forces in Egypt. Cecil, who was only 18 years of age, was a very popular lad in Eden, where he had resided up to about two years since.  Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved relatives.
