The chair commemorates Leonard James Hobbs who was Rector of the parish from 1926 to 1947 and his wife Florence Mary Hobbs.

Rev. Leonard James Hobbs, former rector of St. Andrew's Church of England, South Brisbane, died today. He was born in 1882, ordained in 1909, and was rector at St. Andrew's from 1926 to 1947, when he retired. He was well known for his church broadcasts on the Australian Broadcasting Commission. He was, at different times, organising secretary of both the foreign and home missions of the church. He was rural dean of South Brisbane from 1942 to 1946, and also served at Esk, Tiaro, Howard, and Gympie.
