The tablet erected over the grave commemorates Private C. McKinnon who died of pneumonia contracted during the South African (Boer) War. 

Trooper Charles Mckinnon was a member of the Imperial Bushmen`s Corps and had returned to Australia from fighting in South Africa when he died suddenly from pneumonia  in Melbourne Hospital in July 1901.

A Soldier`s Grave

In memory of Private C. McKinnon of 4th Imperial Contingent who died 17th July 1901
Aged 22 years.

The victim of disease contracted amid the hardships of the  South African Campaign.

He was commended by his superior Officers, beloved by his comrades, and he is mourned by all who knew him.
