The plaque placed by the 2nd / 23rd Battalion Association commemorates Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Alfred George Tucker, who was their commanding officer from October 1943 to September 1945. 

Lieutenant Colonel F. A. G. Tucker commanded the 2nd / 23rd Australian Infantry Battalion during the Finschhafen operation. His determined and resourceful leadership during the Satelberg campaign and the subsequent pursuit of the enemy to Sio, was in large measure responsible for the efficient role his battalion played.

To honour Lt. Colonel F. A. G. Tucker, D.S.O., M.I.D., C.C., E.D. who was their Commanding Officer October, 1943 to  September, 1945

Sattleberg, Wareo (P.N.G.)  Tarakan (Borneo)

Lt. Colonel Tucker also served at Lae, Finschafen, Tobruk and El Alamein.
