Seat erected by the Parks and Gardens Social Club to commemorate a member, Trooper L.F. Whalan who was killed at Balikpapan in July 1945 during World War Two.
Mr. and Mrs. C. Whalan, of New Lambton, have been advised that their only son, Trooper L. F. Whalan, an A.I.F. commando, died of wounds at Balikpapan on July 13. Trooper Whalan, who was 21, had served for three years in the A.I.F. Before enlisting he was employed in the horticultural section of the Parks and Building Surveyor's Department of Greater Newcastle Council.
