The marble plaque commemorates Lance Corporal Leslie Oliver who was killed in action in France during World War One.

With a view of marking their esteem of the late Lance-Corporal Leslie Oliver, a number of his comrades organised a fund some weeks ago, and have now secured a marble memorial tablet, suitably inscribed, which is to be erected at the tram terminus rotunda in John-street. The tablet is to be fixed in position today, and tomorrow evening the unveiling ceremony is to be performed by Mr. J. Estell, M.P.  The chair will be taken by the Mayor of Wallsend, Alderman W. Harris. Arrangements have also been made with the Model Band to be present, and they will assist in the ceremony and afterwards play a programme.
