The commemorates Flying Officer Rodney Mellowship and his aircrew who were killed in action when their Lancaster PD230 when shot down by a night fighter after a bombing mission over Russelshiem, Germa­ny, on the 13th August 1944 during World War Two.

Rodney Mellowship and the crew are buried in a joint grave at Hotton War Cemetery, Belgium.
