The monument commemorates Charles Edwin Rundell and his wife Catherine Amelia who established the Alpine Lodge at this site in 1904 which provided meals, accommodation and was a change station for horse coaches in 1904.   The Lodge was destroyed by fire in 1928.

And his wife Catherine Amelia (Cousins) 1883 - 1969 who established the Alpine Lodge on this site in 1904

The Lodge provided meals and accommodation and was also a change station for horse coaches. 

Destroyed by fire 19. 11. 1928.
