The fountain commemorates King George V.

George V (1865 – 1936) was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 until his death in 1936.

The King George V. Memorial given by Mrs. W. B. Chaffey will be erected at the corner of Eighth street and Deakin avenue, the town clerk (Mr. T. J. Nihill) said yesterday. The fountain will be placed on a site at present occupied by a shelter shed.
