Plaque marks the boyhood home of William Guthrie Spence (1846 - 1926) founder of the Amalgamated Miners Association and Australian Shearers Union, who later became a federal minister.  It is a  `reading desk' style marker and stand with printed account with photograph of the Spence home and map of block. The inscription was provided by the Department of Conservation,Forests and Lands.
