Ken Brown Memorial Playing Field was named in honour of Ken Brown who was once an administrator for Thursday Island in the 1960's.

He was the person who made a recommendation in Queensland Parliament for Thursday Island, which was included in Cook Shire, to become a separate Local Government Shire.
