The Bertie Barden Clock

This clock was erected by Tara Shire Council in recognition of the dedicated service given to the Shire by Bertie Barden O.B.E
Shire Councillor 1945 - 1949
Shire Chairman  1949 - 1952
Shire Chairman  1955 - 1982

During three years as councillor and thirty years as Chairman Cr. Barden attended every meeting of Council 
Awarded O.B.E. in 1977 for meritorious service to local government and the community.  Major achievements of the Shire in this period :

1961 Tara Aerodrome
1962 Meandarra electricity supply
1963 Meandarra water supply
1963 Tara sewerage scheme

1980 Tara squash courts

1230 km of council roads have been formed or gravelled and 55 km bitumen sealed in this period also 513 km of main roads have been sealed and 112 km gravelled
