The walkway commemorates W. R. (Wally) Parker who was the Town Clerk for the Glen Innes Municipal Council from 1955 to 1983.

Parker Place was a project to commemorate Australia`s bicentenary in 1988.

The walkway was officially opened by Mrs. G. Parker on April 2nd 1988.
