The plaque commemorates the "River Man", Garry Zwarecz. The plaque, depicting a man beside a campfire with a dog under a tree was organised by long-term residents Wally Barrett, Merv Cox and Irene Stokes after a donation from the Lions Club and contributions from people attending the Pinjarra Festival.

Garry , who moved around mainly at night, was well known in the local community having lived there for over 30 years. Garry was known by the name of Anderson after abandoning Zwarecz, frustrated at being last in alphabetical order at school. He died in 2010.
