The park commemorates Barry Wilson, former Medical Superintendent of the Winton Hospital who died at age 30.

Barry Wilson was both medical superintendent at the hospital from 1969 until his death in 1972 and first President of the Winton Outback Festival Committee. When he died young, at the age of thirty, the Winton Jaycees wanted to construct a memorial in his memory.
