The garden commemorates Donald Hersey who was the town gardener on the Council staff for 38 years, being especially known for his dahlias.

A raised garden bed in which the flowers, notably dahlias, are regularly changed to maintain a show of colour was erected by the Corporation of Renmark following his death.
