The billabong was named to commemorates the life and work of Christopher C Bailey who was concerned with the conservation of the Yarra Valley and the history of the district. Wilson Reserve is named after Skipper Wilson who, with Chris Bailey and Mr Eisemann, led the drive to raise the money to purchase the Reserve "for the youth of Ivanhoe".
