The tree commemorates Frederick Stevens Tuckfield  (1898 - 1973) who founded the Berwick and District Tree Society in September 1964. 

Frederick Stevens Tuckfield was born in Sale in 1898.  Fred began a wholesale business selling tea in 1936, having previously worked for Rolfe & Co Ltd, wholesale grocers. By 1940 he was selling Ty-nee Tips tea.  He was very involved in the Australia Camellia Research Society, and was at one time the President. He developed 25 camellia cultivars at his Clover Cottage property at Berwick. Fred Tuckfield died September 19, 1973.
