The gates commemorate Ralph Marks, who was a Lions Club member and involved in local government for many years. The gates were erected by the Lions Club of Albury. 

He was President of the North Albury football club for over 20 years, and he contributed an enormous amount of his time to the Albury district and its sports associations.
