The plaque commemorates Margaret Billingham for her services to the Shepparton community.

After many years sitting as a vacant block, the land that once housed the Margaret Billingham Villas at Shepparton Villages’ Tarcoola residence has been reclaimed by the Shepparton Villages Board, allowing for the return of a plaque paying tribute to the late Margaret Billingham, which is also set to pave the way for a multi-million dollar development on the land.

The 30 villas that once stood on the land were named the Margaret Billingham Villas in 1976 and until the buildings were demolished years ago, the original wooden plaque honouring Margaret stood on the site to pay tribute to the tireless work she did with the less privileged members of the local community.

“We have put in the new plaque to recognise her contribution to the establishment of these flats but also to recognise all the work she has done throughout the community of Shepparton such as spending 22 years in the Shepparton Ladies Benevolent Society, over 18 years with the Royal Institute for the Blind Auxiliary and 27 years in the Agricultural Society of Ladies.”
The Adviser (Vic), 4 March 2015.
