Named in honour of George Russell Davidson OAM

1906 - 1993

Born of Scottish parents George came to Australia as a three year old and at the age of 25 left dairy farming during the depression, to work as a road labourer.

In 1941 George began as Shire Overseer of Wangaratta Shire Council and became Shire Engineer of Bowen Shire Council in 1960 following the amalgamation of the two councils.

George`s most noteworthy contribution was as an executive member of the Bowen Old Peoples Home Society in the establishment of the Nursing Home and accommodation units.  Other contributions included services to Rotary where he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in 1983 and the organization of emergency services during Bowen's many cyclones and floods.

George was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in June 1987 for his contribution to the community.
