The stone structure in the form of a seat commemorates the work of William Johnston who died in 1930.

The death occurred at Strathalbyn on March 27 of Mr. William Johnston, eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnston. The Angas Flour Mills at Strathalbyn were purchased by Mr. Robert Johnston, and both his sons were engaged with him in the business, which subsequently was conducted under the name of W. & A. Johnston. The sons sold out a couple of years ago and retired. Mr. William Johnston was interested in a number of Strathalbyn institutions, including the Agricultural Society, Memorial Gardens, Bowls Club, and the Croquet Club. He leaves a widow and one son, Mr. Robert Johnston.
