Gunnewin Soldier SettlementPrint Page Print this page

The plaque commemorates the descendants and the site of the Gunnewin Soldier Settlement.

After World War One, the government gave soldier settlers 600 acres (roughly one square mile) and £600 to construct fences, dig a dam and build a hut. Gunnewin was one of these settlements. Unfortunately, the soldier settler's farms were not very economical and many of the soldier settlers returned to the city.
