The plaque commemorates the Australian Bi-Centenary in 1988 and is close to where the rescue party searching for Burke and Wills camped in 1862.

The tree is estimated to be over 700 years old and was severely damaged in a wind storm in 2012. The tree is heritage listed in the Victorian Heritage Database under Eucalyptus camaldulensis.
