St Bartholomews Pioneers MemorialPrint Page
A stained glass window commemorates the pioneers of Western Australia. Many of the pioneers are buried in the East Perth Cemetery.
The design of the window shows biblical characters against a background of aboriginal motifs signifying the imposition of European civilisation on the aboriginal way of life. An aboriginal presentation of the Milky Way was taken from a bark painting at Yirrkalla in the Northern Territory. A concentric pattern used in the window matches complex incised-line designs used in drawings by aboriginals at Boulder, Port Hedland, Laverton and East Kimberley.
