The plaque unveiled on Trinity Sunday in 1988 as part of the Mulgrave Shire Bicentennial Project, commemorates Captain Cook's voyage of exploration in 1770 during which Banks and Solander catalogued plants which are now growing in the median strip of Trinity Beach Road.
The Bicentenary was celebrated in 1988 to commemorate 200 years of European permanent settlement in Australia.
Captain James Cook claimed the whole of the east coast of Australia for Great Britain on 22 August 1770, naming eastern Australia, 'New South Wales'.
