A monument commemorates the bicentenary of the journey by Captain James Cook along the east coast of Australia in 1770. The Endeavour was in the vicinity from the night of the 8th May 1770 till the morning of the 11th May 1770.

Captain James Cook claimed the whole of the east coast of Australia for Great Britain on 22 August 1770, naming eastern Australia, 'New South Wales.'
