This wall was erected by Newcastle City Council in conjunction with Newcastle Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Newcastle Builders Association to commemorate the discovery of the Hunter River Estuary in 1797 by Lieutenant John Shortland R.N.

And to celebrate Australia`s bicentenary.
