The plaque marks the completion of the Cairns Railway Station building in 1955. The plaque was relocated to its present site from the previous railway station in McLeod Street. 

BRISBANE, June 6. - The new Cairns Railway station will be officially opened early in August. The Transport Minister (Mr Duggan), who will go to Cairns for the opening, said today that the estimated final cost of the station was £500,000.
