The concrete obelisk on a two-stepped base which was erected by public subscription to commemorate King George V.

George V (3 June 1865 – 20 January 1936) was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Emperor of India, from 6 May 1910 through the First World War (1914–18) until his death.

The memorial was unveiled by the State Member for Mirani, Mr E.J.Walsh on the 12th May 1937.
