The fountain commemorates King George V.

On Friday afternoon there was a large gathering of people, including school children, at the Town Hall Reserve, when the mayor (Cr. H. J. Blackie) unveiled a memorial to the memory of the late King George V. The memorial takes the form of a polished granite drinking fountain.
