The monument commeorates Ann Monk and Melvyn Barron, who were victims of the Cooyar Flood of 1988.

In February 1988, a severe thunderstorm over Cooyar Creek catchment caused the highest flood since European settlement in the township of Cooyar. Several houses and buildings were washed away and two lives were lost.

Front Inscription

This local granite boulder was placed as a memorial to Anne Patricia Monk 39 years, and Melvyn William Barron 41 years who lost their lives during the Cooyar Flood at midnight on the 12th February 1988.

This is the site of the formar Cooyar Memorial Hall which was built in 1951 and was washed away during the flood

Four houses and one shop were also destroyed.
