A plaque recognises the efforts of 31 men who ran the Olympic relay torch from Gin Gin to Bundaberg in the lead up to the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. The plaque celebrates the 56th anniversary of the relay from Cairns to Brisbane.

It commemorates the 14th November 1956, when Mr J. Coumessos carried the Olympic flame into Gin Gin and handed it over to Mr J. Lund to continue the journey south to Melbourne for the opening ceremony of the Games of 16th Olympiad on 22nd November.
