Plaque acknowledges the traditional owners of Lake Macquarie, the Awabakal people, and the contribution of Aborigines to the city.

The Awabakal (also Awabagal) are an Indigenous Australian people of coastal New South Wales. Awaba is the word for Lake Macquarie – Awabakal therefore meaning people of Lake Macquarie.
