A statue commemorates 100 years of surf life saving in the Inner City of Wollongong. The statue is a collaborative effort between North Wollongong Surf Life Saving Club and Wollongong City Surf Life Saving Club. The statue is situated between North Wollongong and Wollongong City beaches.
A public meeting was held in the Council Chambers on the night of Monday, January 6, 1908. Its purpose was to form a Surf Bathing and Life Saving Club. The attendance was close to one hundred people of which the Mayor, Alderman W J Wiseman presided.
